Our client owned an existing detached house in the Northamptonshire village of Glapthorn. The house had a large garden to the rear. The brief was to provide a high-quality retirement property for our client that would take advantage of the open view to the rear. The design was to allow plenty of daylight into the property to give an open and airy feel to all the rooms.

Glapthorn village is classed as a linear village, where most of the existing properties are built along the sides of the two principal lanes that pass through the village, as the local plan strives to maintain a linear village. However, the planning committee approved this development on its merits as a positive contribution to the village.
